What's Happening At Oak Development Technologies

2021 is already off to a roaring start and so is Oak Development Technologies. We have a few great updates to be sharing with you that will be happening over the next few weeks and months.

We're moving!

Since Oak Development Technologies is small and home based, it is relocating with me (Seth) to Salt Lake City, Utah! This is because the main source of income for me is an engineering role at a large communications development company, we will be taking everything with us.

This will mean that any orders between February 25th and March 5th will not ship until Monday March 8th, 2021. It takes some time to move across country and get setup in a new location but once we are setup, things will get back to shipping within 24 hours of your order.

New Boards And Stuff

To keep up the momentum we have going on here at ODT, we are continuing to reinvest your orders into new boards and products. There are a lot in the pipeline that we are excited to bring you so we will talk about those for a little bit.
  1. AT42QT1070 Acorn - This is one of our first i2c breakouts that we are bringing to the shop. What this allows is for people to build powerful capacitive touch projects with this cute 7 channel capacitive touch sensor. Alternatively, we've broken it out to where you can use it in standalone mode. Our plan is to launch this board mid march for orders. Be sure to sign up for our newsletter to get updates on these new releases.
  2. HDC1010 Acorn - Temperature and Humidity sensors are a vital part of any weather station project, and we are excited to bring this to you. We are testing out a prototype and writing the driver code up and hope to also launch this board mid march. Signing up for our newsletter will give you early access to these new product launches.
  3. ADC7138 Acorn - Texas Instruments recently released a powerful automotive grade analog to digital converter with a unique i2c interface. We jumped on the opportunity to breakout this nice ADC onto an acorn allowing up to 8 channels of analog input which can be easily read over i2c interface with your microcontroller. We are in the process of finishing and testing the prototype and developing the driver software to use with both Arduino and CircuitPython. This should launch April time frame.
  4. SapWing ESP32-S2 - The ESP32-S2 is a pretty popular microcontroller and we wanted to bring it to the ODT Sapling board style. This board with feature the ESP32-S2 with integrated SPI Flash, with additional versions including the ESP32-S2 with integrated PSRAM as well. Along with this small form factor, the board will include an additional SPI FLASH 8 SOIC pads to add larger SPI FLASH if you need it. This will also launch either March or April.
  5. RP Sapling - With the announcement of the RP2040 by the Raspberry Pi Foundation, we jumped on the opportunity to design the RP Sapling to bring this great new chip to the ODT store. Due to only a Q2 release timeframe for the RP2040 for mass purchase, we don't currently have a timeline for this board. It will likely be Q3 for launch.
  6. RealTime Pi - This is our most exciting development related to the RP2040. The RP2040 provides a unique opportunity to further strengthen the Compute Module 4. With that in mind, we are developing a Carrier Board for the compute module 4 which will provide up to 2 RP2040 MCUs to be used as RTUs or PRUs for real time applications. This will also include other IO including HDMI, Ethernet, USB and more. This will also likely be released Q3.
We hope that you sign up for our newsletter or follow our blog here to get updates on what's going on at Oak Development Technologies.
